South Tamenend Trail System Construction
This is a message from ReadyBucks
New Britain Borough Residents,
Construction is scheduled to begin on the South Tamenend Trail
system later this week. This will link pedestrian access from the north side of
Butler Avenue to the train station. The roadway will have one lane closed and
will be entirely closed for safety purposes during certain periods while the
contractor is working close to the road. It would be helpful if this area of
roadway is avoided during this period if possible. Construction is expected to
be completed by the end of October.
If you have any questions please contact the Borough Administration office at 215-348-4586 or at secretary@newbritainboro.com.
Thank you for your patience during this time,
New Britain Borough

Road Work on Mathews & Aarons Avenues This Week
This is a message from ReadyBucks
Good Morning New Britain Borough Residents,
Residents on Mathews and Aarons Avenues please note that milling and patching of areas of the roadway will be performed this week.
Please do not park on, or near the road as the contractor will need ample space
for construction. These patches will provide the structure integrity required
for the road and the road is scheduled to be micro surfaced in the Spring which
will provide a nice uniform roadway surface.
If you have any questions please contact the Borough Administration office at 215-348-4586 or at secretary@newbritainboro.com.
Thank you,
New Britain Borough

As summer winds down you might be thinking of what you can do to have some outdoor fun with your family before the start of the new school year. If you have already had your family vacation and are trying to come up with some low or no cost ideas…There are so many things to do right here in Bucks County and even in your own back yard! Here are some suggestions:
Wilma Quinlan Nature Preserve: Take a walk through the 26+ acres of trails through the woods, meadows and along the Neshaminy Creek…be one with nature as you observe birds and the surrounding trees and shrubs. You can also explore Miriam’s Meadow just across the street on Landis Mill Road and observe the wildflowers and learn a little about nature along the way. (Main entrance to the preserve is on Mathews Avenue, accessed by Sand Road)
Covered Bridge Park: Why not pack a picnic lunch and head over to Covered Bridge Park for some family fun? You can talk a walk or bike ride along the bike/hike path, go fishing or check out the community garden and bee hives in Orchard Park.
Beyond the Borough…you could spend the day at Peace Valley Park and do some hiking, biking, sailing or fishing, explore the countryside and find the 12 remaining 19th century covered bridges of Bucks County, take a drive along the Delaware River and enjoy the beautiful views or explore Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve or Washington Crossing State Park for a bit of local history.
Whatever you decide to do we hope you enjoy time spent with family outdoors while the warm weather is still with us. Before you know it, it will be back to school!
The New Britain Bird Town Committee, with support from Gilmore and Associates and Federal Realty, will be holding a Pop Up Park event the weekend of September 15 through 17 at the Town Center Shopping Center.
The Borough of New Britain will be accepting applications for a part time administrative assistant from July 12 to July 28. Interviews for the position will be scheduled for the following week, with final approval by Council at its August 8th meeting.
Please review the position description below, and if interested, please submit a resume either via email to sam@newbritainboro.com, mail/in-person at 45 Keeley Ave, New Britain, PA 18901, or via fax to 215-348-5953. No applications submitted after 4pm on July 28th will be considered.
A grant funded project to construct bike trail along S. Tamenend Ave will begin this summer.
The first section will be from Butler Ave to the New Britain SEPTA Train Station and will include pedestrian safety improvements at the intersection of Tamenend and Butler.
Work on this section will begin this summer, with Polaris Construction being awarded the project. The project contract requires completion of the trail section by October.
The Borough is working in partnership with Doylestown Township to continue the trail to the existing path at the Beulah Cemetary at the corner of Almshouse and Upper State Road, which will likely be completed by Summer 2018.
At its June 2017 meeting, Borough Council approved a land development plan submitted by County Builders for the former Knoell property (at the intersection of Butler Ave and Shady Retreat Road).
The project will entail 117 apartments (a mixture of one and two bedroom) and commercial space (tenants to be determined). The developer will be bringing public water to the area, a traffic signal to the intersection, and streetscape improvements as part of the project.
This plan was approved after various versions were reviewed at more than a dozen public meetings, including the Steering Committee, Planning Commission and Borough Council. Please click the link below to view the Council Meeting where final approval was discussed:
According to the developer at the public meeting, construction will either begin Summer 2017 or Spring 2018, and should take 18-24 months to complete.
Below are renderings provided by the developer for the project.
